Applicability Study of Water Control Valves for Horizontal Well Development in Edge Water Reservoir

  • To clarify the applicability characteristics of water control valves in the liquid increasing process in offshore oilfields, a multi-segment well model for horizontal well water control was established using Well B01H in Bohai M oilfield as an example. Based on reservoir numerical simulation results, a comparative analysis was conducted on the water control and oil enhancement effects and liquid production profile adjustment mechanisms of ICD and AICD valves during the water-free period, liquid increasing period, and high water-cut period. The reservoir numerical simulation results show that liquid increasing strategy has important influences. Before the end of fluid extraction, the water control effect is manifested as a decline in cumulative water production, while after the extraction is completed, it shows an increase in cumulative oil production. AICD valve pressure drop influences water control effectiveness. In the early stages of liquid increasing, the water control effect is inferior to that of ICD, but during the mid to late stages of extraction, its effects significantly surpass those of ICD and the advantage persists until the end of the high water-cut production phase.Based on AICD valves, a water control optimization design was completed for six horizontal wells, resulting in a cumulative oil increase of 7.7% and a cumulative water control volume of 13.2%. This study reveals the process and mechanism of valve water control in edge water reservoirs, and the research results have theoretical and practical guiding significance for horizontal well water control development in offshore reservoirs in China.
