A New Technology for Manufacturing a Matrix PDC Bit

  • This paper introduces a method to cut the cost of a matrix PDC bit by improving the inner steel core which was designed by 3D design technology of PDC bit. Sintering tests of blade and bit matrix were conducted. Then, the temperature test, strength test, cutter welding outfit and field experiments of the PDC bit manufactured with the new technology were carried out. The new PDC bit matrix was undamaged, which demonstrated the reliability of the new technology. The comparative analysis indicated that the material cost of φ215.9 mm 5-blade matrix PDC bit was cut by 54% with the new technology. As a result, the new technology for manufacturing matrix PDC bit could be popularized and applied for its economic results and high reliability.
