An Integrated Well Killing Technology Applied after Gas Well Testing in Long Open Hole in Block Yemen 71

  • In order to push and circulate out the oil and gas retained in the pocket below the packer during the well killing for long open hole testing of oil and gas wells in Block Yemen 71, an integrated well killing method combining bullheading well killing method with reverse-circulation throttle well killing method was developed after the test wells were seriously analyzed in terms of reservoir geological information and engineering parameters. Based on the integrated technologies, all well killing problems were handled successfully within 48 hours after the testing of 4 exploration wells in this block. Although the length of open hole pocket reached 710m in Well Henin-1ST, it only took 27 hours to kill the well without overflow or mud lose, and the DST strings and tools were pulled out of the hole safely and smoothly. Based on field application, this integrated well killing method was a reasonable solution for well testing operation, and it could be utilized effectively in other engineering projects with similar operational conditions.
